More Than Half of The New Zealand Consumers Are Confused by Food Package Labels

A new study has revealed that more than half of the consumers in New Zealand are confused by food package labels.

The study 'Country of Origin Labelling and the New Zealand Seafood Industry' published in a text book by Cambridge University Press reveals the attitudes of Kiwi towards labeling of food as well as the country of origin labeling significance.

Impact PR managing director Fleur Revell commissioned the food labeling research that was used in the case study.

Fleur Revell said more than half (53%) New Zealanders in the study felt requirement of more information on food labels, with respect to country of origin and manufacturer details in particular, with four out of ten (42%) stating this preference.

"The fact that New Zealand's Country of Origin Labelling position is finding an international spotlight demonstrates there is an opportunity for us to become world leaders in improving communication between manufacturers and consumers," Revell added.

Interest was also expressed by the departments of the New Zealand Government to use the research findings in a bid to understand requirements of the consumers in the modern age, properly.
