China-based LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker San'an Optoelectronics has ordered 50 MOCVD sets worth US$134 million from US-based Veeco Instruments, with the equipment to be delivered during December 2014-August 2015, according to the company.
San'an also ordered 50 MOCVD sets worth US$130 million from Germany-based Aixtron SE in September 2014.
Local governments in China have cut subsidies for procuring a MOCVD set from CNY10 million (US$1.62 million) originally to CNY5 million and selected main LED makers for subsidization. China-based makers are expected to add more than 170 MOCVD sets in 2015.
According to LEDinside, China-based makers' combined global market share for LED chip production value will rise from 27% in 2013 to 36% in 2014.
