New Zealand Officials: Dairy Products from New Zealand are Safe to Eat

Wayne McNee, New Zealand Department of Primary Industry official said dicyandiamide fertilizer had been no longer used since last September. dairy products from New Zealand are unlikely to contain dicyandiamide residues  and can be safe to eat.

McNee said that up to now, little dicyandiamide residues can be only found in New Zealand milk powder. The main fertilizer maker in New Zealand have stopped manufacturing and selling fertilizer with dicyandiamide.

Last September, little dicyandiamide was found in part of milk powders in detection of Fonterra's milk. Careful investigation revealed that about 500 New Zealand farms used fertilizer with dicyandiamide.

McNee said there was no uniform standards in the limit amount of dicyandiamide in food. However, little dicyandiamide residues could do no harm to food safety. He said New Zealand had never add dicyandiamide to food.
