Germany-based press manufacturer Koenig & Bauer Group (KBA) has expanded its presence in the flexible packaging segment with the acquisition of Italian press manufacturer Flexotecnica.
Following the transaction, the integrated company is operating under the name KBA-Flexotecnica, which is scheduled to be changed in 2014 along with the KBA's earlier acquired subsidiary KBA-Kammann.
With the integration of the Italian firm into its global sales and service network, KBA expects to open up favorable prospects for further development.
The KBA-Flexotecnica will operate under its previous managing director Claudio Bisogni, the company said.
According to the company, the flexible segment is expected to benefit from increasing levels of prosperity, consumption and the trend towards self-service markets in expanding industrial countries including China, India, Brazil and Turkey.
KBA-Flexotecnica develops and supplies flexo presses for printing on flexible packaging materials and has reported annual sales of about €36m in Europe and in some overseas markets during 2012.
KBA offer printing systems for folding carton and metal packaging with its sheetfed offset facility in Radebeul near Dresden and subsidiary KBA-MetalPrint in Stuttgart, Germany.
