China has become the largest producer and exporter of fur garments, Deng Xiaolan, Honarary Chairman-Asia, International Fur Trade Federation (IFTF), said at the recently concluded 29th International Conference on the world of fashion and apparel, sponsored by the IFTF.
Deng Xiaolan said China has become the largest importer of fur raw materials for its fur apparel industry, which now accounts for 70 percent of the world’s fur clothing exports, Chinese clothing net reported.
The current world economy is in a deep transition period and the sale of fur apparel has declined in recent years in European countries due to a drop in their spending power.
Over the last ten years, fur apparel sales have grown more than three times in Asian countries, which have now overtaken Europe as the largest market for fur garments, Deng Xiaolan said.
Speaking on the position of the Chinese fur garment industry in global market, Deng urged the Chinese large-scale enterprises to focus on branding, in order to create new value and enhance brand competitiveness.
Deng further said the integration of the fur and clothing industry is also reflected in the four major fashion weeks, where more and more designers are using first line of fur in their clothing.
An average of 70 percent or 550 catwalks had fur elements at the four main 2013 Autumn/Winter fashion weeks, with about 500 designers using fur elements in their creations, Deng said.
