Zumtobel Group LED sales rose by 52.6 per cent compared to last year to €419 million. LED products now account for 33.6 per cent of revenues.
These figures from the company’s 2013/14 financial results correlate with the group’s new focus on LED since Ulrich Schumacher took over from Harald Sommerer October last year.
Schumacher outlined a three-year plan earlier this year, which included the downsizing of up to six of the group’s 18 plants as the company shifts towards LED.
The final quarter of 2013/14 saw revenue growth of 8.1 per cent. This higher than expected growth was thanks to excellent results in the Middle East, recovery in Europe and the focus on LED. This boost brought group revenue for the year to €1.2 billion, up 0.3 per cent on 2012/13.
Despite success in Europe and the Middle East, the Asian, American and Australian regions all saw disappointing results.
“Over the past year we have posted slight revenue growth and a sound improvement in operating results,” said Schumacher. “Building on our new strategic direction, in the coming years we will be making systematic use of opportunities for growth and will achieve a clear improvement in our profitability.”
After two difficult years for the components segment, Tridonic brought a return to revenue growth this year. Revenues reached €384.5 million, up 1.8 per cent. This is thanks to good progress in the development and sale of LED converters and modules, which offset the substantial decline in demand for magnetic and electronic ballasts. New products now hold a 54.1 per cent share of revenue – the highest level ever achieved by Tridonic.
“In my view, the Zumtobel Group, with its committed and highly qualified staff, its long-standing customer relations and its internationally established brands, has enormous potential,” commented Schumacher. “With the new structures, we have prepared the ground to realise this potential and outperform the market as we benefit from the opportunities offered by the technology shift and the global market.”
