According to the European Steel Association (EUROFER), in November last year flat steel imports in the European Union (EU) totaled 803,000 mt, while EU long steel imports amounted to 249,000 mt. Accordingly, overall EU finished steel imports in November totaled 1.052 million mt, down 7.8 percent month on month and down 7.47 percent compared to the same month of 2011. In addition, total EU finished steel imports in the January-November period of last year totaled 12.903 million mt, down 31.22 percent year on year.
In November last year, flat steel imports into the EU fell to their lowest level since December 2011 due to a 10 percent fall compared to October. The EU’s flat steel imports in November were under 900,000 mt for the fourth month in a row.
