Baltimore Business Journal reported that the odds that Maryland’s manufacturing industry will grow significantly in 2013 are slim, industry leaders say. But there is good chance the state can use next year to take strides toward nurturing the industry’s future growth.
Between October 2002 and October 2012, the state lost close to 44,000 manufacturing jobs.
Although there is no quick fix for an industry that has deteriorated over the years, instituting measures like tax breaks for research and development, training the available workforce and focusing on innovation could lay the groundwork for manufacturing’s future viability in Maryland.
