Mark Agreement to Reduce Packaging Waste as Taiwan Producers of 3c Products

Producers of 3C products such as computers, communications items and consumer electronics, and food retailers, manufacturers in Taiwan have signed an agreement with the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) to minimize packaging.

The manufacturers include Chunghwa Picture Tubes, AU Optronics, Innolux, BenQ, ASUStek Computer and BriView, as well as several food companies and design firm Siang Sin Industrial, focustaiwan.tw reported.

The agreement, consisting of a total of 14 products, will reduce packaging waste by 1,100 metric tons (mt) annually.

All the companies have joined the campaign, which was promoted by the EPA since 2006, and was extended to agricultural products, food retailers, processed food and design companies.

The campaign was aimed at cutting down wrapping materials for items such as cake, liquor, cosmetics and processed food gift boxes, as well as cds and dvds, and has annually reduced 7,300mt of materials.
