The slackening off in turnover during the course of the past year in businesses belonging to the German wood industry also continued during November 2012. Turnover declined by 1.5% to €1.365bn in this period. At -5.5% to €333.3m the export trade again suffered a more serious deficit than domestic turnover, which remained virtually unchanged at €1.032bn (-0.2%). Poor export business was reflected particularly strongly in the sawmill trade (-12.1%), where turnover in November dropped by 4.4%. Producers of wood-based panels also suffered an overall decline of 2.3%, ensuing principally from a reduction of 5.2% in export business. Construction-related sectors also suffered turnover declines (-2.4%), whereas improvements were recorded by packaging manufacturers (+0.6%), manufacturers of parquet panels (+2.6%) and producers of other timber goods such as pellets (+19.2%).
