KraussMaffei AG has announced expansions in China and Slovakia. The Munich-based firm said it will double production capacity at each location and expand performance capabilities at plants in Haiyan, China, and Martin, Slovakia. It expects expanded production will start at each location in early 2013. The projects are designed “to strengthen our activities in core markets and in emerging markets,” CEO Dietmar Straub said in a news release. At Haiyan, opened in 2006, the company will boost production of Netstal and KraussMaffei injection presses for PET applications and machinery for reaction and extrusion technology. The operation also offers complete plant engineering and oval conveyer lines. The firm also will add production of the MX series of KraussMaffei presses. Earlier this year KM created a new China subsidiary through a merger with Netstal’s Shanghai operation. Floor space at Haiyan will rise from the current 115,000 square feet to 211,000 square feet. KraussMaffei started the Martin operation in autumn of 2010 to make its AX series of injection presses of up to 350 tons, switch cabinets and molds. It will add production of robots, the EX injection presses, and machines for reaction and trimming technology. The plant’s space will nearly double to 125,000 square feet. The firm started production in Martin to meet growing demand in Eastern Europe. Source: plasticsnews.com
