Hpd and EPD for EcoWorx Carpet Tiles Range Is Released by Shaw

Shaw Industries Group, Inc. (Shaw) has finalized a Health Product Declaration (HPD) and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for its EcoWorx carpet tile, the industry’s first fully recyclable, non-PVC carpet tile backing and the backbone of all Shaw carpet tile products.

“Shaw Industries, along with its brands Patcraft, Philly Queen Commercial, Shaw Contract Group and Shaw Hospitality Group, is committed to delivering healthy products to our customers. We believe the first step in providing healthy products is to make smart, informed choices regarding the materials that go into those products,” states Paul Murray, vice president of sustainability and environmental affairs at Shaw.

The release of this HPD is the latest in the company’s commitment to transparency and product stewardship. Shaw’s use of HPDs and EPDs complement the company’s long-term commitment to designing to Cradle to Cradle protocols, which it began doing a decade ago.

Cradle to Cradle design protocols call for materials that are safe and healthy for humans and the environment, with a keen focus on material health, material reutilization, water and energy stewardship, and social fairness. More than 90 percent of Shaw’s commercial products are Cradle to Cradle certified, and the company has commitment to 100 percent of its products (residential and commercial) being designed to Cradle to Cradle protocols by 2030.

“Shaw is working to create HPDs and EPDs for all its commercial product platforms,” noted Murray. “When coupled with a stringent evaluation system like Cradle to Cradle, transparency tools can be even more powerful. Cradle to Cradle puts the list of ingredients into context and provides an assessment of impacts that may not readily be apparent based upon an HPD or EPD alone.”

Shaw’s EcoWorx is Cradle to Cradle Silver Certified and contributes to LEED credits associated with recycled content, low emitting materials, manufacturer take back, as well as for its recently completed HPD and EPD.
