Corrugated packaging company Smurfit Kappa has partnered with ESTL, a Belgium-based provider of delivery services, to provide customers with packaging, transport, security and logistics solutions.
According to Smurfit Kappa, around 4% of all shipped goods are damaged either due to faulty packaging or transportation issues.
The partnership is expected to solve the problem by using Smurfit Kappa's supply chain optimization tools such as Pack Expert and ESTL's transportation tests to make sure that the product arrives safely without unwanted over-packing, leading to reduction in customer's costs and resource.
As part of the collaboration, ESTL will provide Smurfit customers with complete paper and board packaging solutions in addition to transport, security and logistics optimization.
Smurfit Kappa marketing, research and development vice president Arco Berkenbosch said by combining the company's expertise with ESTL, it will uncover insights on transport security and logistics optimisation to help their customers' businesses.
"The partnership will enable customers to develop end to end packaging solutions safe in the knowledge that it will deliver on all levels - from safe transportation during the supply chain, through to attracting shoppers on the shelf - while also saving costs on minimising product damage and reducing unnecessary packaging waste," Berkenbosch added.
ESTL packaging department president Jelle Dendauw said, "We are very excited to be partnering with Smurfit Kappa to offer their customers the capability to take a holistic review of their entire supply chain and their associated packaging needs. We give customers a neutral and independent point of view on how they can optimise their pallet load stability and reduce damaged products and waste."
