The City of Newburgh, US is set to partner and support the growth and expansion of garment industry by providing affordable manufacturing space, workforce, and technological needs for the sector.
The City recently partnered with The Solar Energy Consortium, a non-profit group whose main goal is to attract light manufacturing back to the region. The Solar Energy Consortium was awarded a $2.5 million grant to further their efforts in attracting manufacturers, with a focus on those considering re-shoring their production back to the United States.
The effort to attract manufacturers began 2 years ago with a campaign called “A River of Opportunities”, which facilitates the process of obtaining or marketing workspace in The City of Newburgh. This networking tool is for building owners, managers, realtors, as well as property seekers.
The grant will enable the campaign to increase Solar Energy Consortium’s marketing and advertising effort towards the garment industry. A significant portion of the grant will be available to procure advanced manufacturing equipment for garment companies who are looking to house some of their production in the City of Newburgh.
Along with the ability to help secure capital intensive equipment, an advanced manufacturing training facility is under construction in the former Newburgh Armoury, now known as the Unity Center. The Unity Center will ensure a continuous stream of trained workers, who will be proficient in using advanced manufacturing equipment.
With its close proximity to New York City, Newburgh is expected to meet the critical needs of garment manufacturing companies. With over 2.5 million square feet of warehouse and manufacturing space and easy access to several major interstate highways and an international airport, Newburgh is set to help the garment industry in the US.
