MMK Metalurji's Finished Steel Output Decreased by 14 Percent Quarter on Quarter

Russian steel giant Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that its Turkey-based subsidiary MMK Metalurji's finished steel output decreased by 14 percent quarter on quarter to 144,000 mt in the third quarter of the current year, due to strike action by production staff, which lasted from July 19 to August 7. The company has not restarted crude steel production since it idled smelting capacities in November 2012.

In the third quarter of this year, the hot rolled flat product output of MMK Metalurji totaled 13,000 mt, declining by 13 percent, while its galvanized steel production amounted to 65,000 mt, down 11 percent, both compared to the previous quarter. The steelmaker's color coated steel production decreased by 18 percent quarter on quarter to 66,000 mt in the given quarter.

In early October, MMK Metalurji announced that during the first nine months of the current year its domestic galvanized steel sheet sales increased by 33 percent, while its domestic color coated steel sheet sales registered a 20 percent growth, both compared to the same period of 2012.
