In the week ended April 8, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of Australia, totaled 2.5 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes a decrease of 16 percent compared to the previous week ended April 1, in which a week-on-week increase of 26.4 percent in coal shipments had been observed.
Newcastle port authority forecasts that Newcastle port will ship a total of 12.8 million mt for the whole of April.
Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
