Suzuki has revealed four new concept cars ahead of their joint world debut at next month’s Tokyo motor show.
All based around Suzuki‘s ‘Small Cars for a Big Future’ slogan, the Japanese manufacturer says all four concepts represent cars that are “currently in demand, cars that should be available in the near future, and cars for the more distant future”.
The Crosshiker (pictured top) is an 810kg compact crossover powered by a newly developed 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine. Based on a lightweight platform first used to underpin the G70 concept seen at the 2011 Tokyo motor show, Suzuki says the Crosshiker is “tailored to adults keeping a playful mind”.
Based on the four-wheel-drive Suzuki Jimny, the X-Lander is a hybrid concept that combines a 1.3-litre engine, an electric motor and a new “automatically controlled manual transmission”. Aiming to fuse “off-road power and mechanical precision”, the car maker says it wants drivers to use the X-Lander in the city as well as “to play in the field”.
To be shown in both standard (pictured below) and ‘four-door coupe’ (pictured bottom) body styles, the Hustler is designed as a practical crossover to suit active people who love the outdoors, nature, and sports. Featuring SUV-style touches such as a protective front underbody skidplate and plastic wheel-arch cladding, the Hustler is claimed to offer a “roomy, comfortable, and useful interior”.
Joining the foursome and making its Japanese premiere will be the four-wheel-drive Suzuki iV-4 concept. First unveiled at last month’s Frankfurt motor show, the iV-4 previews an upcoming Jimny successor set to launch in 2015.
The 43rd Tokyo motor show begins on November 20.
