Japanese carmaker Toyota is planning to build a new $495m engine manufacturing facility in Porto Feliz, São Paulo in Brazil for producing engines for the Etios and Corolla sedans.
The new 870,000m2 facility, which is aimed at localising the company's operations, will produce 1.3-litre and 1.5-liter engines for the carmaker's Etios sedan as well as 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre engines for its Corolla.
Production at the new plant is scheduled to commence in the second half of 2015 with an initial capacity to produce about 200,000 units per annum.
Toyota has also opened a new $600m vehicle manufacturing facility in the southeast Brazilian state of Sao Paulo, which will have an initial production capacity of 70,000 cars a year.
The new vehicle manufacturing plant will start the production of Etios sedans in September 2012, which will be powered by imported engines from Japan.
