Visa Europe's V.me Digital Wallet Was Made Available in The UK in May

RBS is the first bank in the UK to adopt Visa Europe's digital wallet with an initial roll-out of technology that the bank believes will make it easier for customers to securely buy while on the move.

Visa Europe's V.me digital wallet was made available in the UK in May.

It provides Visa and non-Visa customers with a secure online point-of-sale(POS),which can be accessed via PC,tablet and mobile devices as part of a digital wallet service and will eventually be incorporated in all Visa Europe's new payment technologies.

RBS is initially rolling out a trial, ahead of a full roll-out next year that will make it available to all RBS and Natwest customers.

Steve Rubenstein, director of everyday banking at RBS,said the proposition reduces the effort of buying things online, while also improving security, for customers.

The number of customers using smartphones to make purchases is soaring, according to research for the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales index. It found that mobile retail has so far averaged 300%year-on-year growth for the first quarter of 2012.
