Nissan Motor Is Planning to Install New Steering Technology in Some of Its Vehicles

Japanese carmaker Nissan Motor is planning to install new steering technology in some of its vehicles.

The new technology, known as steer-by-wire, will be installed in some models of Nissan's Infiniti brand within a year.

With the help of new technology, the direction of the wheels can be changed in relation to the steering wheel inside the car using electronics instead of mechanical means.

The new technology will use a camera, radars and laser scanners to automatically brake if it senses the risk of any object, car or a person crashing the other objects.

By using the new technology, inputs made by the driver through the steering wheel will be transmitted to a computerised engine control unit, which will then instruct the actuator how to move the tyres.

Besides Infiniti brand cars, the company aims to use the new technology in some of its other cars in an upcoming period of three to five years.

In 2011, several automakers that include Audi have already introduced the technology in their concept cars.
