LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Meritor has unveiled two new Nissan NV3500 vans that will be used to deliver training to warehouse distributors, service garages and fleets in the US and Canada.

The vans will offer hands-on training to service managers, shop supervisors, service technicians, maintenance directors and drivers, focusing on drivetrain and undercarriage components.

“We’ve been hearing loud and clear that our customers - the warehouse distributors, OE dealers and fleets - want more product education,” said Rick Martin, senior manager, aftermarket training, Meritor. “During the first 12 months, training will focus on braking systems, which will help the industry manage through changes and new demands.”

One van has already been deployed on training visits while the other was being showcased at the Heavy-Duty Aftermarket Week event in Las Vegas this week.

Meritor says its ramped up training efforts will help fleets improve their safety records. The vehicles will be used to deliver instructor-led training on brakes and brake systems throughout 2014.

The vans have video monitors and working air system boards, as well as actual brake hardware. Each van also will have cam and disc brake hardware, friction and wheel ends, air valves, air dryers, stability control systems and other tools to assist with learning.

Meritor will deliver two types of training: city-wide training, with two three-hour sessions covering eight distinct brake subjects, hosted at hotels in major cities; and one-on-one clinics held at fleets, dealerships and warehouses in the US and Canada.
