Hansen Medical Will Feature Its Magellan Robotic System at TCT Conference

Hansen Medical will feature its Magellan robotic system at the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) conference, which will be held at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami, Florida, US, from 22-26 October 2012.

The Magellan utilizes flexible robotic technology and allows sufficient extension inside the body to access hard to reach peripheral anatomy.

The robotic system, which provides solid catheter stability for placement of therapeutic devices, allows for independent, individual robotic control of the distal tips of both the outer sheath and the inner leader catheter, as well as robotic manipulation of standard guidewires.

In addition, the system employs a remote physician workstation to reduce physician radiation exposure and fatigue.

Hansen Medical president and CEO Bruce Barclay said in addition to the exhibition, a live aortic endograft case will be performed at the conference by Barry Katzen, founder and medical director of Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute, on 24 October 2012.

"Our strong presence at TCT combined with our recent and upcoming showings at the Vascular InterVentional Advances (VIVA) Conference and the 39th Annual Symposium on Vascular and Endovascular Issues (VEITHsymposium), respectively, are critical opportunities for Hansen Medical to continue generating momentum around the significant benefits of our technology," Barclay added.
