Mentor Graphics Is Continuing Its Moves in to The Embedded Linux Market

Mentor Graphics is continuing its moves in to the embedded Linux market with the acquisition of certain assets from MontaVista for the development of Linux-based in-car multimedia systems.

Automotive markets are becoming a big focus for embedded software suppliers. Today’s cars can have 12 million lines of code running in their embedded systems.

According to Mark Mitchell, general manager of Mentor Graphics open source embedded systems business, this will jump to 100 million lines of embedded software code in next generation vehicles.

In-car information and entertainment systems will be a large part of this with introduction of voice-recognition, touch screens, web browsing, GPS and smartphones.

“In-vehicle infotainment systems are a growing embedded sector and the market is being transformed by the adoption of Linux-based software,”.
