According to data released by the Korea Iron & Steel Association (KOSA), Korea’s heavy plate output totaled 761,000 tons in May, rising by 2% from a month ago and reaching the highest level since this year.
However, the country’s production of heavy plates dropped by 20% year on year to 3.65 million tons.
Among them, 2.73 million tons were sold to domestic market, decreasing by 16% and 945,000 tons were to export markets, slumping by 23%, both compared to the figures in the same period of a year ago.
