Taiwan Medical Equipment Industry Output Value up

Taiwan's medical equipment industry output value has already increased 5.4% on year in 2014 to NT$85.8 billion (US$2.78 billion), driven by demand for new and smart applications, according to the Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center (IEK) of Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI).

Demand for medical equipment, including blood sugar testing and surgical facilities in addition to automated devices and smart care will continue to increase throughout 2015, most notably in India where governments are making efforts to improve healthcare facilities.

Surgical display demand has been on the rise as well, with monitor vendors eyeing niche segments in the medical field such as Ultra HD displays in addition to energy-saving devices. Displays sized 60-inch and above have seen the largest demand so far in 2014, noted IEK.

Currently, 74% of Taiwan's revenues from the surgical display segment come from 2MP displays, largely driven by clinical-review display technology, while 8MP displays are expected to account for 83% of the revenues by 2017, added IEK.
