Terumo Europe, a subsidiary of Terumo, has entered into a long-term, multi-million dollar distribution agreement with BSD Medical.
Under the agreement, Terumo will have the right to market BSD's MicroThermX microwave ablation system in100 countries in Europe, Western Asia, and Northern Africa.
The agreement, which validates the large market opportunity for MicroThermX ablation products in the above countries in excess of $1bn in annual sales, is expected to drive market adoption for the MicroThermX ablation therapy system.
BSD president and CEO Harold Wolcott said revenues from the agreement with Terumo Europe should commence by the end of the third quarter of fiscal year 2013 and are expected to make a substantial contribution to its overall revenue over the next few years.
"Longer term, we expect this agreement will make a strong contribution toward our objective of achieving profitability," Wolcott added.
Featuring a microwave generator, single-patient-use disposable antennas and a thermistor-based temperature monitoring system, the CE-marked mobile MicroThermX system utilizes the phased array technology to provide uniform zones of ablation during a single procedure.
