According to data released by the Chilean construction chamber (CChC), China’s rebar shipments totaled 52,644 tons in February, falling by 11.4% from a month ago while rising by 15% year on year.
Industry sources said that the drop in rebar shipments was caused by weak domestic demand. It’s said that the domestic demand for steel for steel long products has remained sluggish since the end of 2012 until early March.
However, the Chilean producers still hiked their prices by 5% in the first months of 2013.
