Following its acquisition of Wyse earlier this year, Dell has announced it will be bolstering its software virtualisation portfolio with the acquisition of Quest Software.
Dell said the $2.4bn acquisition will provide critical components to expand its software capabilities in systems management, security, data protection and workspace management.
"The addition of Quest will enable Dell to deliver more competitive server, storage, networking and end user computing solutions and services to customers," said John Swainson, president, Dell Software Group.
Quest's products include identity management, performance monitoring and Windows Server management tools.
As Computer Weekly previously reported, Dell is morphing from a supplier of PC hardware to a services and datacentre computing company.
In April, during its annual analyst event, CEO Michael Dell and the computer firm's senior executive team presented Dell as a solutions business.
The company is bolstering its virtualisation business while it trims its PC business by $2bn.
