Epson America is set to introduce its ColorWorks C831 Wide Label Printer, in a bid to help chemical manufacturers and transporters conform with globally harmonized system (GHS) labeling standards.
ColorWorks C831 is suitable for high volume printing of large format drum and chemical labels and produces industrial labels up to 8.5" wide at speeds up to 16.5 pages per minute.
The printer with Just in Time Color labeling eliminates the need for color pre-prints and allows chemical companies to produce GHS compliant labels.
GHS, which has been designed to ensure consistent labeling of chemical products globally, uses universally understood symbols or pictograms, specific signal words and hazard statements and conveys health, physical and environmental hazard information.
Under the standards, label elements should be printed in vibrant colors to focus attention on potential dangers.
Companies can also no longer pre-print labels with pictograms and then cross-out symbols that do not apply to the chemical being shipped.
