The Karnataka government is planning to develop smaller textile parks at different places in Ballari, Chamarajanagar and Vijayapura districts, a government official said.
Addressing a roadshow for Technotex 2015 in Bengaluru, K Ratnaprabha, additional chief secretary, Karnataka government, said the smaller textile parks will be in addition to the upcoming integrated textiles park at Yadgir in north Karnataka.
Informing about the present position of the proposed Yadgir textiles park, Ratnaprabha said the government has acquired around 3,300 acres of land in Yadgir district, and 1,000 acres of the same has been earmarked for the textiles park.
She added that the textiles park in Yadgir, which is among the most backward region of the state, will improve condition of cotton farmers and weavers, and also create employment for a large number of people.
The government intends to revise its Textile Policy 2013-18 to make it more industry-friendly, and is seeking opinion and suggestions from various stakeholders of the textile industry, she said.
SK Panda, secretary, ministry of textiles, urged the state government to identify large area (at least 2,000 acres to 5,000 acres) for setting up mega textile parks, in order to attract foreign direct investment. He said the Central government will provide the required infrastructure facilities.
During the 12th Five Year Plan period (2012-17), the Union government has set a target of achieving a 20 per cent growth in the textile sector, said Panda. He further informed that about 300,000 people have been trained in the textile sector so far and the government is working towards training a total of 1.5 million people during the 12th Plan period.
Technotex 2015, the annual conference on technical textiles organised by the ministry of textiles and FICCI, will take place from April 9-11 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, Mumbai.
