Medical technology company Medtronic has introduced the Export Advance aspiration catheter, a new device to remove coronary thrombus, in the US.
Export Advance aspiration catheter has a pre-loaded stylet, which increases the deliverability and kink resistance of the new device while traversing the vasculature to reach the aspiration site.
Pre-loaded stylet is a core wire which runs through the middle of the shaft, providing more support during delivery.
Medtronic has developed the Export Advance aspiration catheter with full-wall variable braiding technology that provides variable degrees of stiffness along the length of the device to enhance flexibility and pushability while navigating the device through the vasculature.
The new aspiration catheter offers greater power and superior deliverability, the company claims.
Medtronic coronary business vice president and general manager Jason Weidman noted with more than 10 years of market leadership in this product category, the company has continued to lead the way in innovation, setting a new standard of performance with the Export Advance aspiration catheter.
"In addition to superior deliverability, our next-generation device offers high-performing aspiration power that physicians have come to expect from Export aspiration catheters, which to date have been used to treat more than one million patients worldwide," Weidman added.
The US Food and Drug Administration has recently approved the new device, which is the latest addition to the company's portfolio of thrombectomy devices including Export AP aspiration catheter.
It also obtained CE (Conformite Europeenne) mark approval in May 2013 and has been launched in various international markets since then.
