The Hyundai E4U individual mobility concept, unveiled at the Seoul motor show, is the Korean manufacturer’s first Segway-like vehicle.
With a 24-volt 500W electric motor powering “a base hemisphere unit” rather than wheels – plus two retractable rear ‘legs’ for stability and a pair of headlights – Hyundai says the E4U can reach speeds of up to 30km/h.
Hyundai says the E4U’s name comes from the four Es that are combined in the vehicle: evolution, electricity, eco-friendliness and, erm, ‘egg’.
Affordable, flexible transport is apparently the goal, though drivers are required to wear a helmet-style windscreen on their head.
