According to statistics released by Taiwan’s customs, Taiwan’s imports of steel bars totaled 31,659 tons in last December, soaring by 57% from a month ago.
In December, the export revenues generated by steel bars were at NT$569.41 million. However, the import prices of steel bars averaged at NT$17,986/ton, falling by NT$927/ton from the previous months and hitting the lowest level of 2012.
Industry sources indicated that the price dip in steel bar imports was caused by the dropped steel prices in international market.
