Geisinger Health System has purchased Mazor Robotics' Renaissance surgical guidance system for spine procedures.
Michael Suk will oversee the Renaissance system's clinical and academic orthopedic program at Geisinger while Meagan Fernandez a fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedic surgeon at Geisinger, will perform pediatric spine surgeries with Renaissance.
Geisinger Health System department of orthopedic surgery chairman Michael Suk said the Renaissance system has proven to provide patients with scoliosis significantly better outcomes from procedures that result in shorter hospital stays, quicker recoveries and reduces intraoperative radiation exposure.
"The exceptional precision and safety of the Renaissance system is a drastic improvement over freehand surgery, and it will help patients feel even more confident in the high-quality care they receive at Geisinger, especially during complicated spine procedures," Suk added.
Mazor Robotics CEO Ori Hadomi said, "Dr. Suk is building a world class spine surgery practice, and we are proud to make an important contribution to this exceptional health system's goals for patient care."
