Japanese automobile maker Mazda is planning to produce sub-compact Toyota-brand vehicle for the North American market at its Mexico plant by 2015.
The sub-compact vehicle, which will be based on the Mazda2, will be produced at a rate of 50,000 units per year and will be sold across Toyota dealerships.
Mazda's Mexican plant, which is currently under construction, is scheduled to start production by March 2014.
Toyota is also expected to invest into production equipment and model development costs, as well as costs related to the Mexico plant's production-capacity increase.
The agreement will enable Toyota to strengthen its North American vehicle lineup and Mazda to increase production efficiency and profitability.
