Targeting broadcast and studio lighting, LED Engin has introduced a new 5300K white LED, and added to its RGBW portfolio with an LED delivering a 30% performance gain.

LED Engin is now offering the Studio White family of LEDs that produce 5300K CCT light at a CRI greater than 85 for lighting products that will target broadcast and studio applications. Targeting solid-state lighting (SSL) for stage applications, the LZ4 flat-lens family of LEDs packs red, green, blue, and white (RGBW) die into a single package.

LED Engin offers the Studio White products in a range of package sizes and 10-80W designs that deliver 600-4400 lm. The white LEDs are designed to naturally render skin tones, and have a CRI R9 value of 50. The LEDs will enable SSL fixtures and lamps that are smaller, cooler, and far more efficiecnt than the HID arc lamps that are regularly used in studio applications.

"Our Studio White emitters meet the specific color temperature and color quality requirements of general studio lighting to fulfill a need that cannot be met with standard daylight white LEDs," said David Tahmassebi, President and CEO of LED Engin. The company also offers TIR (total internal reflection) lenses for the LEDs with a variety of beam spreads.

The LEDs will also deliver much longer lifetimes in studio products and less maintenance. The Emitters are based on the company's proven LuxiGen platform and feature low thermal resistance for added reliability. Tahmassebi added, "These new emitters deliver best-in-class flux and color stability over time thanks to our technically advanced LuxiGen platform."

RGBW stage lighting

The LZ4 LEDs for stage-lighting applications, meanwhile, are offered in 550- and 725-lm versions with each die driven at 1A or 1.5A respectively. LED Engin says that the products are 30% brighter than competing LEDs from other vendors.

LEDs again enable lighting products that are smaller, cooler, and more reliable than the HID lighting uses in stage applications. Moreover, the RGBW approach enables precise color control without the need for the color filters required for legacy sources.

LED Engin supports a variety pf secondary optics including zoom lenses and imaging optics that can deliver beam widths as narrow as 6°. The flat lens used in the LED package allows easy application of such optics.

"Stage and studio lighting have some of the most demanding requirements for LED emitters. Our technology not only produces the highest lux-on-target for a given power rating, but also gives lighting designers greater creative freedom," said Tahmassebi. "Fixtures that use the technology produce focused, punchy light with minimal glare and are capable of fast, precise color changes to create dramatic effects."
