US-based Smiths Medical has gained US marketing rights for its CADD-Solis variable infusion profile (VIP) ambulatory infusion system, following the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval.
The multi-therapy infusion system, which includes five delivery modes of continuous, intermittent, taper, patient controlled analgesia and step, is designed for use in various therapies including Total Parenteral Nutrition, chemotherapy, antibiotics, hydration, pain management, and intravenous / subcutaneous immunoglobulin infusions for adult and pediatric patients
Featuring an ambulatory infusion pump attached to medication cassette reservoirs and administration sets, the infusion system provides reliable and safe infusion delivery for home care patients.
The pump's therapy-specific color screens also easily differentiate each delivery mode to provide intuitive easy-to-use navigation, according to the company.
The VIP system also features a medication safety software allowing home care pharmacists to enter, store, download custom therapy-based protocols into the pump and alerts operators the infusion process when a pump setting is programmed outside of preconfigured limits.
Smiths Medical president Srini Seshadri said, "We are extremely pleased to be able to continue that tradition with a smart, innovative new system that will help home care providers to prevent pump programming errors and improve patient safety."
Smiths said that the multi-therapy infusion system is available for sale in Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Australia, the UK, and the Middle East.
