SAMSUNG today launched a new range of cheap, WiFi-connected cameras in Australia in a push to snare a major slice of the compact camera market.
The six new WiFi cameras in Samsung’s smart camera 2.0 range, are smaller and lighter than the company’s signature Samsung Galaxy Camera released late last year.
That camera achieved 25 per cent market share for compact cameras costing more than $500, Samsung Australia digital imaging director Craig Gillespie said today.
The Galaxy Camera uses Google standard Android’s operating system and therefore can run apps downloaded from Google’s Play store. But it came at a heftier price - $599.
In this new product line Samsung has removed the Android OS but has extended the camera’s WiFi capabilities. That’s made these latest cameras cheaper, lighter, smaller, yet WiFi capable.
