Taiwan LCD panel makers are seeing positive results with their 39 and 50-inch TV applications as they respond to increased competition with China and Korea makers.
Chimei Innolux(CMI)said its monthly shipments of 39-inch panels will reach one million units in May-June while shipments to the 50-inch segment will come to roughly 300,000 units in June.
AU Optronics(AUO)also has started shipping 39-and 50-inch TV panels although the volumes have not been as high as those from CMI.
But the new applications from the two Taiwan panel makers are posing strong challenges for 37-inch models made by LG Display and BOE as well as for Samsung Electronics'40-inch model.AUO and CMI are also trying to challenge the 46-,47-,and 48-inch panels from Samsung and LGD with their 50-inch models.
For further differentiation,CMI has also launched 29-inch TV panels trying to replace 26-and 27-inch ones on the market.CMI's Initially aims to ship 100,000 29-inch panels per month, with plans to ramp up the monthly volume to 400,000.
