Beijing Capital Tyre Co. is recalling certain Autoguard LT245/75R16 tires manufactured from June 25, 2012, through Nov. 11, 2012. The potential number of units affected is 2,711.
The tires being recalled failed the endurance test standards of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 139, "New Pneumatic Radial Tires for Light Vehicles." They contain incorrect maximum load load data on the sidewall, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Office of Defects Investigation.
"During use, the tires may crack in the tread area leading to sudden air loss, and tire failure. Additionally, owners may unknowingly overload the tires which may lead to tire failure. Either condition increases the risk of a crash."
Beijing Capital Tyre will notify owners, and dealers will replace the tires free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule.
