MeadWestVaco (MWV), Multi Packaging Solutions (MPS) and Ellis Paperbox have joined Ecodesk, the open data sustainability platform to measure and analyze supply chain energy use and carbon emissions.
The companies join an on-going initiative by Ecodesk in order to measure, map and analyze business sustainability data in a free-to-access environment.
By targeting suppliers to understand their energy use and carbon emissions, the companies can develop a complete picture of their own environmental impact.
The platform is used by the companies to openly publish their sustainability data and also to link with suppliers and develop a map of supply chain energy use and carbon emissions.
Ecodesk CEO Robert Clarke said the understanding of the packaging businesses of the commercial benefits of sustainability data and the role it can play in terms of procurement and reputation has been refreshing.
"These businesses have quickly realised the benefits of having an open data relationship with their customers but also their own suppliers. This transparency and collaboration can only lead to a stronger, more dynamic packaging industry," Clarke said.
