rlc | packaging group, a specialised supplier of innovative folding carton solutions for branded goods and pharmaceutical industry, has developed a company specific CO2 calculator that calculates greenhouse gas emissions for specific orders.
rlc has developed the calculator along with ClimatePartner. The technology takes into account all factors related to the carbon footprint of packaging.
Emissions can be offset with emission certificates from internationally recognised climate protection projects.
The company plans to use the results from the calculator to offer more targeted advice to customers on sustainable packaging design and production.
rlc | packaging group CEO Hans-Christian Bestehorn said: "Sustainable action and thinking are firmly anchored in our corporate strategy. This way we also create an important added value for our customers.
"For many years, we have relied on modern supply chain concepts. We continuously invest in the safety and security of our employees and implement our lean production concept to achieve both economic and eco-logical objectives."
The company has been working towards the optimum material utilisation which includes initiatives like the use of raw materials from renewable resources or recycled products.
Also as part of its 'Green Chic' concept, rlc implements laser gloss and other resource-saving inline finishing technologies.
The carbon footprint for each of the rlc sites in Hanover, Aachen and Ber-lin has also been certified.
"By supporting international climate protection projects, our customers sustainably offset unavoidable carbon emissions from the overall product. We are currently looking for other potential op-tions to further reduce CO2 emissions. This reflects our ongoing commit-ment to eco-sustainability," adds Bestehorn.
