Brazil's Passenger Passenger Car Output Increased by 4.1 Percent Year on Year

Brazil's motor vehicle output in 2012 decreased by 1.9 percent compared to 2011 to 3,342,617 units, according to the Brazilian Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association (Anfavea). Of the total motor vehicle output, the country's passenger car output increased by 4.1 percent year on year to 2,623,704 in 2012, while its light commercial vehicles fell by 10.8 percent compared to 2011, amounting to 549,249 units.

According to the report, total new motor vehicle registrations in Brazil amounted to 3.8 million units in 2012, increasing 4.6 percent year on year. 20.9 percent of this figure consisted of imported new vehicles, while this figure was 23.6 percent in the previous year. Meanwhile, Brazil's motor vehicle exports in 2012 decreased 20.1 percent to 442,075 units, compared to the previous year.

Meanwhile, in 2012 Brazilian motor vehicle exports totaled $14.7 billion in value, falling by 9.3 percent compared to the previous year. In December alone, the revenue generated by motor vehicle exports was $1.1 billion, decreasing by 8.3 percent month on month and down 18.4 percent compared to the same month of 2011.
