Iron Ore Exports From Port Hedland in Western Australia Fell 1.8% to 27.7 Million Mt

Iron ore exports from Port Hedland in Western Australia fell 1.8% to 27.7 million mt in February, from 28.2 million mt in January, data released by the port authority Thursday showed.

Of the total, 21 million mt went to China, 2.7 million mt to Japan, 2.6 million mt to South Korea, 762,152 mt to Taiwan, and 274,383 mt to other Australian ports.

In January, Port Hedland's iron ore exports included 23.3 million mt to China, 1.4 million mt to Japan, 2.7 million mt to South Korea, 597,283 mt to Taiwan, and 155,681 mt to other Australian ports.

Manganese ore exports from Port Hedland dropped 45% to 53,000 mt in February, from 96,393 mt in January. All of the February manganese exports went to Vietnam, whereas all of the January exports were shipped to China.

Port Hedland is used mainly by Fortescue, BHP Billiton and Atlas Iron. Rio Tinto exports iron ore from its own facilities at Dampier and Cape Lambert further south in the Pilbara.
