Future Lighting Solutions has helped enable Australia's medical industry by bringing energy saving high power and high reliability LUXEON® S LEDs to Scan Optics Pty Ltd.’s new range of ophthalmic microscopes.
This range of high quality operating microscopes consumes 60% less energy and provides a much longer 50,000-hour lamp life than their halogen counterparts.
Scan Optics makes ophthalmic microscopes for cataract surgery, with a product range including portable table mounted and floor stand mounted ophthalmic microscopes, slit lamps, surgical lights, indirect ophthalmoscope and operating table extensions. The company’s products are used in over 120 countries throughout the world.

Future Lighting Solutions provided LED selection assistance and engineering support during pre-production
trialing. “These microscopes are a family of specialized surgical equipment that requires high reliability for
rugged field usage. We selected the LUXEON S for superior performance and optical characteristics that supply an excellent warm color and uniform light pattern,” explained Gary Lowder, Product Designer at Scan Optics.
