Mills Fleet Farm is in talks to be acquired by buyout firm KKR & Co., according to a Reuters report. With 35 locations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and North Dakota, the company's mix includes hunting, fishing and sporting goods products.
Other categories include farm, lawn, toys, auto, footwear and apparel.
Mills Fleet Farm revealed it was seeking a buyer to employees in October. The third-generation family-owned company is led by CEO Stewart Mills III, who announced in October his second run for Congress.
Sources told Reuters that KKR has prevailed over other private equity firms in an auction for privately held Mills Fleet and a deal may be announced by the close of the year. The deal could be worth up to $1.2 billion.
