An Axis network camera served as a lookout on the Belzebub II as it crossed the M'Clure strait in the Canadian Arctic, becoming the first ever sailboat to navigate the stretch of sea between Greenland and Alaska.
A WiFi connected camera served as a lookout onboard the first sailboat to successfully cross a previously frozen stretch of Arctic sea.
The voyage was previously only made by an icebreaker and this attempt was made to visually highlight the reduction in polar ice.
Mounted in the top of the mast the Axis Q6034-E Network Camera also documented the voyage as well as aiding navigation.
It was connected through WiFi allowing the crew to look around 360 degrees without being exposed to the harsh weather and dangerous conditions.
"When sailing through ice you need someone sitting in the masthead with a bird's eye view," explained Edvin Buregren one of the ship's crew.
"It's the worst place you can be when you sail, weather, wind and movement is much worse up there than down on the deck.
"We had a WiFi network onboard that the camera was connected to it was an invaluable asset when sailing in difficult waters and harsh weather."
