Russian vertically integrated company Russian Railways (RZD), which manages infrastructure and operates freight and passenger train services, has reported that it has started to receive supplies of high-strength, one hundred meter-long rails made in Russia. Russian metallurgical companies have learned how to produce 100 m rails needed by railway companies to construct modern trunk lines. Recently, Russian Railways began to receive high-strength long rails from its traditional partner Evraz Group, and in spring of 2015 supplies of similar products from Russian holding company Mechel are expected.
The new rail products with improved performances are most in demand for the construction of high-speed lines and lines with high traffic volumes. Russian Railways will use them, in particular, in the modernization of the Baikal-Amur and Trans-Siberian railroads.
