UK based, Coats plc, a leading industrial thread producer and marketer, has launched a new fibreglass coated yarn, Glasmo SM VO, designed for use in telecommunication cables.
“Its unique adhesion properties and inherent strength reduces cable manufacturing costs by eliminating one of the processes in cable production,” Coats said.
According to Coats, Glasmo SM VO’s oval shaped cross section increases the surface area of the yarn, and its uniquely engineered chemistry promotes the adhesion between the glass fibre components and the PVC cable jacket.
“This combination eliminates the need for a preheating process which therefore streamlines production and reduces cable manufacturing costs,” it adds.
The coating process also increases the strength and stability of the glass fibre which means that smaller cables using less PVC for the jacket can be produced while still meeting strength specifications, further reducing manufacturing cost of the cable.
Rajiv Sharma, Global CEO, Industrial Division, Coats plc, said, “Glasmo SM VO is another example of the innovation in our Speciality business.”
“We are continuing to develop high technology products with enhanced strength and performance features which provide cost savings and benefits for our customers,” he stated.
Glasmo SM VO can be used in drop wire telecommunication cables including copper, fibre optic, shielded and coaxial cables and can be produced as per customer specifications. (AR)
