Global shipment of smartphones has increased 39% up to September 30. Strong demand for low-priced Android phones in China eroded Apple's market share.
As growth of smartphone sales in the United States and Europe has slowed down, attention has turned to consumers in developing countries. Many consumers favor devices that's cheaper than iPhones.
Apple's profit and margins slid depite selling 33.8 million iPhones in September. And greater China revenue increased 6% through Apple has just univeiled two smartphone models last month.
Samsung Electronics global market share increased 0.4% to 31.4% in 3th quarter. Its 40.5 percent increase in shipments was driven more by its low-end mass market smartphones than its flagship models like the Galaxy S4 and Note 3.
According to IDC, price points have declined, driven largely by low-cost Android solutions. It helps China become one of the fastest growing smartphone market in the world.
IDC said it expects strong momentum to continue into the December quarter.
